NOW… do you ever feel alone?

Yes, I know we spent that year apart, but it didn’t really feel like it. We talked all the time. We worked around our feelings as the world did its changing and the changes worked their way inside our heads.

Some days felt longer than others. Do you remember when it all came crashing down? And our classes all got cancelled, of course by then we were almost absolutely certain what was happening, and the warp that we had entered went on to multiply every moment that came after, like a dollar when it enters the bank and is lent out again and again. We suddenly had time, what we’d always been after.

In short succession, the months underwent a compression and to look behind us and upon them was to gaze upon an unholy mountain of impenetrably dense moments that all felt vaguely same-ish. Like a hoarder’s miserable trove of useless artifacts and obscure documentations, our lives felt painstakingly compiled, and absolutely meaningless when taken in their entirety.

Did we lose each other in the mess?

Did we lose ourselves?
