about
i. The Warp And The Weft
A tattered tome of fiction is snatched up from an end table. Packed in a satchel along with this novel we find a piece of exotic fruit and extruded corn dough encased in a low density, polyethylene resin sheet. Digging deeper, we also find a borosilicate glass device and a container of finely ground and fragrant plant matter. Stepping out into the humid atmosphere, OUR TOURIST inhales. Compressed, volatile aerosols are released, introduced to a spark and ignited to flame. Was that an engine starting? Or something else? Moving NOW through streets overcrowded with life and advertisements, or standing still to let the scene wash over us.
\\
What happened to our day off? Spent like a paycheck, left us feeling like there was something else we should have done. Time is always entering the arcane algorithms of the universal translator, made into money along with the rest of it. The ever-ticking concrete experience of temporality has been utterly shifted, shunted onto a narrow track that has carried us since the very first time we signed the form and let a miniscule value be assigned to our greatest asset, this limited gift of the conscious mind. We feel the surplus drained. We never clock out, we just stop getting paid.
\\
Regrettably, for NOW, we are going to have to get paid. But we will find a quiet space to be, a back room or unmapped corner. We will try to trace another track, following a word right off the page to strange new surroundings, situating ourselves all womb-like in the cool mud, resorbing what we lost, what we have long been separated from. Time, like moisture, seeps back into our body and goes right to our head, unfolding along its unseen axes to reveal its true scope, beyond linearity and segmentality. How long is a moment? Long enough to get lost in, maybe long enough to never come back.

TIME MELTS, HOURS PASS, AND THE CYCLE BEGINS AGAIN.

lyrics
As a youth
I was poured into
A recalcitrant mold
Never still
I would squirm until
You relinquished your hold
I'm gonna take what I want from it all
And I'd leave this planet behind
I have been
Slipping in and
Out of it all of the time
When I left the warp and the weft of it all
I was paper thin, and interdimensional
Oh, I have had it up to here
With the rental, the ornamental
Oh, I would let it all disappear
Like a dream in my wake
Bathed in radiation
Born under a sour sign
All that I'm left with is this meaningless existence
Being made to work and wait around to die
And in truth, I treated it like fiction
A reaction that the action can't deny
And with way more force than when they split the atom
I'll be coming from the future
I'll be taking back what's mine
I'll be coming for my future
I'll be taking back my time
Grey Matter is really doing something that no other band is doing. Ska (I know, stay with me) + Jazz + Hardcore and a little bit of something else entirely. Lansing MI based RENT STRIKE
The first time I saw Peter play, we had already been friends for a couple months. I cried listening to him, for everyone else I've met whose gifts I didn't know. RENT STRIKE
