about
II. White Noise
Things are largely
worse than they seem.
Is this real?
Has it all been a dream?

\\
You see, life…
is like an all night jazz club.
Sooner or later,
you gotta stumble home.
We used to BE something, man. Subversive. A threat.
NOW, we’re background noise. Sterilized by decades in
radio ads and *KXKXKXKXSH* television scores.
Life is like a punk rock band.
Totally fucking irrelevant at this point.
\\
Yeah, we used to cruise around with no intention. Burning gas,
eating plastic. Nothing but a chip on our shoulder and an unwavering faith in
this little notion we held called *KXXXXXSXSSSSH* ‘progress’.
How young we were! Wild and free, up all night drinking and singing into the void, daring it to take us in the dead of night. It has to have gone somewhere; It is, after all, conserved. Captured by the dead space, little by little, without us even noticing. And then, a decade has passed, our hair thins and skin sags, and we might beg for another taste but the void has never been much for conversation, or concession. Energy, once it has left a system, tends not to return.
\\
Some of it has to stick around, though. Right? Hell, the whole thing is still vibrating from all the way back before the very beginning. We’d be on our long drive through the desert, the radio endlessly searching, stopping on a brief snippet of a precisely manufactured country song, or a fire-and-brimstone sermon, the words all getting cloudy, mixed together in the cosmic noise, audible artifacts of the twin births of *KSSSHHHXXSXSKKXXSH* time and space. We’d stop and think of the unfathomable distance this sound had to travel to get here. How much further it has left to go. We’d hit empty, long before we reached our destination.
Ultimately, these frequencies would pass right through us, completely inconsequential on their way toward oblivion. We were so much the same.

lyrics
Show's over. It's too late
I've got nothing to say for myself
On the eve of the Great Big Running Out
And I'm so far away, at the end of the day
I guess we had a good run, but
I won't feel a thing til it's long gone
NOW I'm sobering up
I'm rubbing my eyes
I stayed up too late, NOW I gotta
Watch the sun rise
So who's hand is on the switch anyways?
And who's getting stuck with the cost
In the event of a great big shutting off?
And how many of us can honestly say
We'd stand even a chance alone
In the aftermath of the inevitable crash?
NOW I've come to expect
Just more of the same
But in the absolute worst possible way

The first time I saw Peter play, we had already been friends for a couple months. I cried listening to him, for everyone else I've met whose gifts I didn't know. RENT STRIKE
